1999 SL500 Sport-Cracked Bumper
My newly repaired front bumper lasted less than two weeks when I ran into another concrete parking space "log". Time to do something different. Does any one have any experience with Extreme Dimensions body parts? They will deliver a bumper to FL for $400. Check this video!

Any opinions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jimmy

Fit and finish are the issues that this and Benzworld forum bring up. All seem to break! One forum member talked about the post install finish that had voids and bubbles, took much hand work and he calculated hours of extra work. The 2k price difference was about $2.00/hr. I am using carbon fiber fabric to cover over the splits and using steel dor the back side for strength. Hope you find a good answer.

I am still looking for a solution. One thing for sure is that if I have body work done, it will have to be done by a body shop. What did you put on the back of your bumper? Came out in the in the post as "steel dor". Is repairing with carbon fiber something a good custom body shop could do?
Thanks for the reply. Any ideas are appreciated.

Supports
Sorry for typo's. I will support the back side of the flexible plastic with a metal plate material. Often I use SS but may use Galvanized metal that will be easier to bend to the curve. I will construct a rectangular box that an LED light bar will reside that will shine thru the front of the bumper cover. The carbon fiber sticky material ( like contact shelf paper, but hard to cut ) will cover the front surface with a smooth veneer covering the rivets and fill epoxy. The fill epoxy will honeycomb from front to back thru the drilled holes I will use to bond the original MB plastic. If it looks good I will post to the forum.

Finally got started on solution, body shop guy had just attempted installing a kit bumper on a R129. The customer supplied bumper would not work, just would not fit. My bumper was too hacked up to repair again. http://www.prestigebumpers.com/ had a repaired AMG bumper for $500 plus $85 shipping. That was the best price I'v found for a repaired one. Will let you know how good it is in a couple weeks.

Repaired Bumper looks good
The bumper from Prestigebumpers.com looks good. It is painted and mounted and now the bodyshop is fabricating some braces under there that are missing. For $500 I consider prestige the way to go.

Can you supply pictures of where the braces were missing?
This is important to me especially if it's the two tabs towards the center of the AMG bumper that hold it up to the frame.

Let me be clear, The bumper was fine, there were some brackets down under there that were part of the car that were missing. I didn't get under the car so I can't be specific, but the body shop said the bumper was fine ,this was something else.
Sorry for any confusion,
Jimmy
