SL/R129: 1993 500sl transmission

1993 500sl transmission
Drove my car home and it would not shift into park. The shift lever is in park but the trans is stuck in drive and now the car won't start and I can't move the shift lever.

Shift lever is connected to the trans on the drivers side of the transmission. Sounds like the lever on the side of the trans has come loose or bent. Safely jack the car up and crawl under the trans. and you will easily see the shifting mechanism and maybe can determine what is wrong with it. If you are stuck in park, there is also an anti theft rod that goes into the shifter from the ignition switch. Make sure you put your foot on the brake and also try turning the steering wheel.
