SL/R129: 1999 SL 500 Blower Motor

1999 SL 500 Blower Motor
The blower motor in my 1999 SL500 does not work. I have checked the obvious ie. fuses. There is power going to the motor, so I assume the motor is pooched. Does anyone know if the motor is a sealed unit or can it be rebuilt? Does anone know who sells this motor other than a MB dealer?

I know they are not cheap. I need a new blower and was quoted $600 for the blower and $400 for a relay that they highly advise replacing at the same time. Mine just makes a horrible screaming noise.

You can find these parts used/new quite easily on the internet.
The problem is the DIY is a bit annoying as you need to go in through the base of the windsheild by taking apart the wiper assembly. Takes time and a good memory to put everything back together. There are videos on Youtube of people doing it with relative ease, but I suspect it's because they've performed this job many times before.
