SL/R129: Faulty Roof and Roll Bar - HELP ME PLEASE
My '96 SL320 roof and roll bar has all of the sudden stopped working.
Both the roof button and roll bar buttons are permantly lit, not flashing.
This happened yesterday when I took the car the be washed, the roof went down fine and the back up fine when getting it washed. I then dropped it again so it could be hoovered out properly, then it all started.
Firstly I noticed the electric seats were moved into what looks like a reset position and the red and green lights on the rear view mirror were flashing when I started the car. Both the roof and roll bar make no noise when pressing the buttons so I cant even put the hardtop on.
I had to manually wind up the soft top but even that does not fit at the back (This is stated in the manual).
Has anyone got any ideas what maybe wrong, I have checked some fuses but not too sure what they all do. Could it be a relay or something.
Looking forward to replies, HELP ME PLEASE..........

Drove to MB dealer who diagnosed faulty softtop control module($1200) located under passenger side rear deck. Even though I requested that they reset error code they went ahead and replaced module. So we'll never know if just resetting error code would have fixed the problem. Funny thing is, manufactured date on replacement control module only one month after build date of SL500. Draw your own conclusion.

Roof sorted now, problem was indeed the battery.
The Mercedes garage hooked the car upto the software contained on a laptop (some £30K's worth) and then sure enough roof and roll bar errors were present but also Battery Voltage Low errors.
Cleared all errors and was all fine (THANK GOD!! - no ECU needed)
Then upon having my battery changed yesterday, it tripped it again so it seems everytime the battery is tampered with, the roof and roll bar trip out and need reseting.
Thanks.
The problem was due to the battery being lowin voltage and was advised to get it changed.
They had to clear the codes (problem) with their laptop system.
When the car went to have the battery changed, the problem occured again. I was told that any tampering with the battery, jump starting etc will throw the errors on the roof and roll bar.
If you take it to a MB Service Station they will have equipment and laptop to do so, a private garage will not.
Thanks
Kevin
