My car has me stumped - HELP - 1996 SL500
Hi guys
I have looked using the search but cannot found the answer!
So last night I went to drive the car for first time in couple of weeks. Car has a month old battery
Remote would not work and so had to open with key
Tried to start the car but would only crank
So then went to change batteries in the fob. Still no joy
Then realised it was probably a fuse - turned out fuse in the boot which controls central locking, infra red etc.
Changed the fuse and then the key would unlock and lock the car
BUT
on trying the start the car, the red and green lights in the mirror flash (not simultaneously) as if immobiliser is on.locking and unlocking does not help
Since then I have
- left battery unconnected for 30 mins to try and clear things
- tried to sync key - point at rear mirror and click twice - then turn on to ignition without trying to start car - nothing
- spare key is the same
- tried locking and unlocking with key again
- tried passing remote whilst it is in ignition
Nothing is working!! Any ideas? Battery in remote was out for literally seconds whilst I changed them
Not sure if problem is down to changing batteries in remote or down to something I did before changing fuse ( unlocking car wt key etc)
Can't get car to as it won't move!

I've been under the impression that to clear the system, the negative side of the battery needs to disconnected for 3+ hours. If you try this and it works, you'll need the security code for your radio.
