my experience is yes for the start, however when the air sensor (s) is clean the CEL does not light up and the engine working range was wonderful.
I have purchased and had the shop install new sensors, ( counter to the mechanics advice) after the new harness (s) were installed because I thought the CEL would never come on! It has come on on a regular basis because of its sensitive nature, so that small particle Kansas air may be a non correctable factor. The car still runs great with no change in fuel mileage.
