91 500sl Tranny Identification
Hi all,
I have a 91 500sl with a sick tranny. I located a used one at a wreckers but was told there are two types of tranny's for this car. There is supposed to be a tag or label somewhere on the tranny which identifies which one it is.
Anyone have some wisdom on this one? Location of label?

I can think of 3 ways to determine it.
First, you can look, which was what you asked about.

Or you can sign up for the EPC (electronics parts catalog), free with credit card to ID your location and put in your vin.

Or you can ask your local dealer to tell you from your vin.
However, though I'm not that knowledgable, I was unaware of a transmission change around the year of your car.
