What does it mean to "Drive the Brand"
I read an web posting of a sports car driver. He wrote that it is important to "drive the brand". He was speaking of not holding up traffic, taking corners faster than the average car, etc. When you drive a sports car.
Since I have never owned a sports car as such ... and have ony had my SL 500 since Dec 2002.
All I know is that I love acceleating as fast as I can off red lights at times. At times, I love passing vehicles with great authority. I do like speed! Some times I like taking corners at speeds well above what I would in any other car I have ever driven.
I wonder if I am letting the "Brand" image down.
A twenty something service rep at my dealership said if he had a car like mine he would just be cuising. Not interested much in acceleration or speed.
I also like to just cruise at normal speeds with the top down, the sterio pumping out good tunes and having the sun shinning on us.
SL 500 new owners tend to be 60+ year old men. I Often see sophisticated ... not teribbly aggressive drivers on the road in their SL 500's.
SL 500's seem to be reffered to by the professionals as a "sporty car" not a "sports car".
What does the SL 500 "Brand" image mean to you? And what do you most enjoy about you R129?

SL 500 AMG
well I bought my SL when I was 27 and Yes some of my friends made fun of me, call me Old to drive that car... but I can beat and out perfom about 90% of the cars out there. So I got Style and perfomance and top down all in one... I looked at NSX, Porshce, Vipers, and the SL was the best choice for me,,, Comfort, performance, Luxury and etc... But everyone is different...

Your car does look great! What year is it?
Did AMG tune the cars in the model year you purchased? How many horse power / how much tourque does the AMG produce?
What are the 0 to 60 times?
The people who have riden in my 1999 SL 500 are all very impressed with the ride and power.
More people should take the opportunity to experience the driving pleasure.
I alsways presumed the SL 500 was a way out of my price range! They are getting more afordable all the time.
