SL/R129: 600sl amg motor badge

600sl amg motor badge
I own a 2001 600 sl love the car but was hoping if someone could shed some light on the amg badge controversy, the car has the two amg badges on the side panels and also a signed amg emblem on the motor , does this mean anything?

I have an R129 V12........it's not an AMG......someone merely placed some AMG badges. The 600 is a great car....enjoy.
