Oil Pressure Switch - Lesson Learned
After buying my car, I noticed that the oil pressure gauge was pegged at 3 all of the time. I bought a new switch (the cheapest one I could find) and had my mechanic put it on.
Although the gauge was no longer pegged at 3; after the oil was warmed up, it would flop around quite a bit - often going to 0 while idling in drive. While the car was at the dealer getting new motor mounts and a transmission service, I asked them for an opinion on the gauge. They told me that if the oil pressure light did not come on, to not worry about it.
Not being content with a malfunctioning gauge, I bought a Siemens-VDO OEM gauge (3x the price of the other). Saturday, I put it on myself and now the gauge reads normally - no flopping around and 1.5 at idle in drive with warm oil.
