SL/R129: SPRAY ON CHROME

SPRAY ON CHROME
I salvaged my 17" AMG wheels from my E420 that got totalled on the NY Through-Way (Bambi decided to commit suicide
) I had these wheels which are silver, refinished a few months before. I am now the proud owner of a 1998 SL500.
The SL is red, stone interior and black convertible top (I sold the Panoramic top on eBay). As you can imagine, silver is the wrong colour for this car and I was considering having them painted black but then I came accross this new "Spray on Chrome" and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. How does it look? Cost? Wear?

if this is the one with the black basecoat then it's not new, it's been out for a while now and it doesn't look exactly like chrome...slightly duller if properly done....it's a very touchy paint job to do...i've done a few already, temp/air/gun pressure/air hose pressure & condensation/preparation and a bunch of other things all has an effect on the final look of it. any certified or very experienced painter should be able to do it & overall my customers were very pleased with the outcome. costs depends on what you'd wanna get done as for wear.....if done properly you shouldn't have any problem with wear at all.

it's the same as i was talking about...it's a 3 stage process...vid ref 1:30...first stage is black basecoat....vid ref 2:40...(look at the model closest to jay...black gives you the best chrome look...you can use other colors but black is the best to get closest to look chrome...and yes you can tint it to get different chrome colors.

If anyone is interested............I have been quoted about $200 per wheel (provided not much prep work is required) And the AMG logo will not be "filled in". Think I'll go with black and clear coat .............
