fuel issues

Good morning, I have questions regarding my '91 300 SL's fuel system. First, the exhaust smells like rotten eggs and in general the exhaust stinks. Second, wen I drive a short distance and turn the engin off, do my errand and get back in the car and restart or try to, the engine stalls one or two times. My mecahnic says they don't have a 5 gas analyzer that would help them to make the necessary adjustments to even out the mixture - I am assuming by the smell that the engine is running rich. I ran the tank down to allmost empty and added a container of Chevron Fuel System Cleaner and 12 gal. of gas. That seemed to help a bit but not much. Any other suggestions?
Thank you,Phil

is the catalytic system involved with exhaust odors? Older battery mixes could give sulfur smells, but that was the engine compartment not the tail pipe.
Where in the world are you?

Hello,
I live in South Florida. I managed to get my mechanic to take my car to another guy who has a gas analyzer. They managed to get the fuel trim pretty dead on, no more bad smells. However I believe I may have injector issues, because when I stop the car after a short drive it is still difficult to restart it.It usually takes about three tries to get it going again.
