Hello MB members,
i have a non working central locking system. I can open the door with my key. The lights flash when I push the remote to open the doors. The trunk switch and the Central Locking Switch do not work on the console. I went to a dealer to get this checked and i was told that i needed a vaccum pump. My questions are where is this pump located? is there a picture showing its location? is it difficult to replace ? I do have some mechanical know how. Is there a choice or oem replacement available for purchase? I do hope that I am requesting this information correctly, this is my first post and my first SL. Thanks for your help in advance.

The Dealer is right.
The vac system, in the trunk can be defective in the pump, fuse out and /or in the tubing. The pump makes an audible sound, low pitch rumble.
I have first checked the fuses, then R & R the pump and also all the hoses. Time and temp are not always good for the system. Water in the system and specifically the pump is a major problem in some regions. So I always check the simple things before I render my CC for the dealers repair!
Others in the "world's" may give their stories, too.
Good luck
