I have decided I would like to have an SL. I am a bit confused about what year though, I want a R129 and I think 97-98 version. I have read quite a bit about them and general school of thought is the M119 is much better than the M113. I suspect this is opinion but I am sure there is some merit to that. I think they are same HP or close, Anyway, I am confused as to what year has what. Do all 97-98 have ESP or ASR? Do they have both or one or the other? Also ADS, do they all have this or is it an option. And of course there is Level control. I have no idea what that came in. It would be good to know which system comes standard and which is an option or what years available. Can anyone fill me in?

My limited view, for what it is worth, Engine size may be a matter of where you will drive and title the car. ( in some parts of the world you may pay extra in insurance, registration fee's and taxes on engine displacement ) In Kansas that is not an issue! I have owned several Benz with a wide range of power plants, and all have been able to keep up with the traffic!!! My 94 had bad wiring, but still has self leveling, ADS and very other option MB was trying at that time. the 600 series was often a test bed for new systems. I collect with an eye to history, ego and excitement. I have not had to mix toy with daily driver, and with some of the fun cars I never dream of investment grade issues.
Good luck with your ride selection.
Where in the world are you?
