Want to Buy 97 / 98 SL500
Hello all,
Not currently a Mercedes owner, but am hoping to join your ranks with a 1997 or 1998 SL500, black exterior, all stock. Willing to spend $9 or $10K for a specimen in great shape, maybe a bit more for something with extraordinarily low miles.
Live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but clearly this isn't the ideal place to purchase my first SL. Am hoping for suggestions on where to find the what I'm looking for. Any thoughts other than Autotrader, Craigslist, and eBay?

If you do auto auctions, the corral ( not consigned vehicles, brought to the auction site by "owners" for trade and cash sale! ) is often a place for cars that don't make the auction grade. It has been a good source of future projects. None are "show" quality, but most are "drivers"

Just bought a triple black '97 SL500 with 75K miles yesterday. Took a night drive with the top down and now I have a giant smile permanently stapled to my face. Best. Car. Ever.
Now I just need an owner's manual and some stock rims...

Andrew, congrats and exciting time for you. Triple black must look mean ? 
SL500 are wonderful V8 cars. I used to own a few myself.
It may take a while but do let us share your driving impressions an what nots.
