SL/R129: Soft Top Operation

Soft Top Operation
I have a '92 500SL, and have had recent difficulty with the soft top ... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It had been to four different Mercedes mechanics, dealership and independent, who all seemed to have thought they had the problem resolved; they didn't. I took it to a mechanic in California, and he replaced the brake light switch, which appeared to fix the soft top problem, along with the cruise control. Today I hopped in the car and lo and behold the top doesn't work again. Anyone else out there have a similar problem? Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.
