SL/R129: seats
Found a donor interior of a 1992 SL 500. These seats have cussion- correction in the back. Can I use these seats on my 300 SL (seat-computer comatible ?) or do I have to change the electronics.
Since these seats have this option do I need to pull a new vacuumline to the donor seats or can I "tap in" on a door line ?
thanks
I would expect the 300/500 set up the same but I would compare wire to wire and vac tube to tube! I expect the mounting structure is the same, however does your door panel have the memory buttons?
I have never done donor, only reset the old frame with new leather and foam.
Good luck in your adventure. Where in the "world" are you
I was planning to do that comparison but first wanted to inquire if anyone else had ever done this.
I noticed there isn't a vac tube available under the seats. I'm gonna put the computer back and connect it again with the 500 seat and check it out, the memory was not available on my 300 and some guy from Holland told me that if I would put a memory knob, I would need another computer also.
As for your question : I am located in a banana republic that is in fact a kingdom named Belgium. You are not allowed to do anything but everything is possible in some way haha
you can have a look at my SL at : "www.carclean.nl" then go to "forum" then to "projects" and finally "Mercedes 300SL" my collegue is a car detailer and he will help me with the polishing and cleaning so he keeps this forumitem alive
anyway thanks for your reply, hope in some years from now I can be of assistance to you ....
My experience is that the memory addition would not be worthy of my time, unless it was part of the "build" sheet. ( it is part of the 600 ) Aside from audio and light modernization that can be reversed, I try to keep the vehicles as the manufacture produced.
The seat adjustments are electric, heater electric, seat belt, air bag system electric, what does the vac system do with the seats?
Good start, it will be good to see it complete!
well the vacuum line controls the cussions in the seat's back. Today I have been looking at the vac.unit and cannot find a line going to the seat's bottom in my car. I do not (yet) have a diagram of the 300 or 500 type to compare but experience has learned me that if it is not foreseen by factory than it will take a lot of effort to get it done and the result is mostly not worth the time (and money) that was put in. Probably, I will leave it as it was, only taking the seat and back as a donor in the original basis. I have never had a car as luxurious as this so it will be heavenly to drive it anyway :-) So probably will keep it original
I guess you saw the pictures at carclean.nl
hope to hear from you again some time or day
