SL/R129: Headrest will not move
Headrest will not move
Hello guys and girls,
This is my first time posting in this wonderful website!
I have a 1995 SL500 and of late I have not been able to move the headrest despite hearing the sound inside the back rest.
My mechanic says it's a headrest track problem and to order a new part in would take around 3 months.
In the mean time, I am wondering if there is anything I can do to reset or remove the headrest myself to try and see the actual problem and hopefully fix it? The seat belts are too tight at the shoulder and I seriously need to get the headrest up as the seatbelt movement depends on the headrest movement.

Welcome to the forum. I've personally never heard of a 'track' problem with the headrests. Doesn't mean it's an impossibility, i'm just not familiar with this diagnosis. With that disclaimer, what I have ecperienced is cracked, broken, or shattered plastic drive gears that move the headrests up/down. On my car ('99) the driver's side went first and I had both sides replaced, using fabricated gears from OdometerGears in VA.
Check the parts I have for the headrest, a link to photobucket eith the part you need, your problem sounds like the plastic gear for the headrest teeth are worn, or the link connector between the the motor and the gear I have those 2 parts for $35 including shipping if you are in the states.
