SL/R129: rotor and dist cap

1992 300sl-24
rotor and dist cap
How are you all doing?I was wondering if a very worn out rotor and cap would make the car shake and run poorly but still start and run.The no 2 spark plug seemed a bit damp and the others looked fine.Having problems and trying to self diagnose.By the way the car is a 1992 300sl-24.Thanks for any help you can give me.

My breakdown would include spark verification, cable first, the with spark plug. Compression test to verify combustion chamber competency, and last for the firing would be air/fuel mixture.
Benz has a diagnostic port, that requires a reader and counting flashes of light to examine the issues with less grease under the finger nails. I used a dealer ( then an indy, for most of the restoration) for all the issues with the M120 engine and the nightmare of an ecological wiring harness, but your 92 would not have those issues.
