Hood Blanket Insulation Replacement

Wondering if any of you have tips on removing and replacing the foam insulation hood blanket of the R129?

Specifically, what's the best way to remove the residual foam/adhesive after peeling away the original?

What's the best adhesive to use?

And the best glue procedure? (I'm thinking to clip the front edge, glue the rear edge, then remove the clips and glue down the new blanket rear to front in stages).

I did mine a few weeks ago using 3m spray interior glue. I clipped the top using the pins that came with the foam.

It's really a two person job. The wife helped.

Remember to stick the top straight up. I used a plastic drywall spreader to get some of the old foam off. I was afraid to use anything metal.

I used an adhesive cleaner by 3M and a hood pad adhesive by 3M, all made for automotive paint finish and engine compartment heat range.
Two people and upright hood are also good. Lke contact cement I sprayed both metal and foam and waited for the tacky set to the spray, then 2nd coat.
I used small plastic wedges at the edge of the hood beams and a tray that held the foam to the center of the hood, held in position with lumber to maintain the pressure.
Good luck, you can repeat in five years!

Okay, it has lasted longer than 5 years but seems to have thinning and or mouse shreading in a short time! An 8 cylinder version seemed to have a problem in short order that was engine vibration related, the 12 less of the same wear pattern.

scott I recommend you using the hood pad made by r129motoring and a can of 3M 8090 adhesive available at Napa auto parts.
