92 500SL shuts off

My 1992 500sl will start and idle for approximately 3 to 5 minutes and then stall. It will re-crank immediately. It will repeat this over and over as long as you want to do it. Dies when I lightly rev the engine. Anyone experienced this issue?

Crankshaft sensor?

My '99 SL500 died on the road after about 10 minutes. After sitting for about half an hour, it restarted. Since the tow truck was already there, I had him tow it a mile up the road to the dealer. They were able to get it to fail at the shop. Crankshaft sensor was intermittent. Bill was $650, parts and 2 1/2 hours labor.

I had the same problem.. had replaced the crank shaft sensor and the cam shaft sensor to no avail. It wasn't until I installed new distributor caps and rotors did the problem go away. Mine would start, once it got warm I wouldn't be able to restart it until it cooled off again. It totally corrected the issue for me though.

Any idea why replacing the caps and rotors fixed it? If one side was faulty would not the car run (probably roughly) with the other side still being OK? I am having the same issue and have already replaced the crankshaft sensor and I am leaning now towards replacing the MAF sensor though do not want to fork out that amount of money for a new one unless I know its the problem.
