SL/R129: Rear transmission noise

Rear transmission noise
I have a 1993 r129 ,300sl when the car changes from first to second gear I can hear a a whirring sound for about 3 seconds.
It will also accurrs when I am in top gear and take my foot off and on the gas quickly.
I have had the gear box checked and a new front rubber drive doughnut fitted to the tailshaft.
The noise appears to be coming from the rear of the car and it only happens under medium engine revs if I drive hard it does not happen and if I drive slowly it does not happen.
Has any one else had this issue or any ideas as to what it might be ?
