Red face 1995 sl500 steering wheel?

Replaced steering G/B... After a few days of driving seems a stiffness and a click in the steering wheel and air bag lights on + horn blowing.

Seems a stationary rider spring has broken and "hanging" make a catch and then frees (horn intermittently blows). Air bag light stays on.

I would like the air bags disabled: question, how to pull the wheel? Correct my errors please.............. Battery disconnected; allow discharge time.
Loosen screws on back of S wheel.
2.) Pull out air bag and disconnect wiring.
3.) Fix will it be obvious?

Q1. Can I throw away the spring and have no horn.
Q2. Does this stationary spring riding on the rotor hurt if it is left out. [my understanding is; that is the path for the air bag connection and without that path the air bag is disabled - is that correct?]
Q3. Remove instrument cluster and trash the bulb light for the air bag?

I really do not want air bags. and really don't need a horn. Or, if I need a horn I can put it on a button.

I certainly will appreciate all help.

OK; update --- 1.) I jumped in ----- so, I don't have a horn and airbag. What a blessing. I hate air bags......

??? The "drag" and "loose, then tight" in the steering wheel. The ribbon for the airbag and horn. I took needle-nose pliers and pulled the most of it out...........

Do I have a worry? Is there a possibility of it shorting? And, causing a future problem?

You may have a problem with the SRS light and the car throwing a SRS code. The codes usually have to be cleared at a mechanic's shop unless you have a code reader that can clear codes.

The SRS light is on! And as soon as I can figure out how to get the instrument cluster out --- I'll pull that bulb and throw it away ;0

But; thank though. My airbags are disabled and what a blessing - they are going to stay that way. Hate them

Beware, Sam. Depending on where you live, getting rid of the light and having a stored code may cause you to fail a state inspection.

Thanks........ not in CA. Only 10 people can read in this state - oops, let the cat out of the sack. Not to worry; ole Blue will track him down.
