2000 Speedo Cluster for a 97 SL (HELP!)

Hello all,

I just moved from Canada to the US and in order to register my 1997 500SL, the Motor Vehicle Dept requires me to replace the Speedometer with a U.S. Version which is in Miles and not in Kilometer.

I just bought a complete cluster out of a 2000 model year, and swapped it with my old one. It was an easy install, every thing fit fine. All gauges, indicators and lights work just fine except two issues:

1) Since the cluster out of the 2000 has an OIL Temperature Gauge in place of the Oil Pressure, this new gauge is not working at all. Also, there is a message in the Odometer Display saying that the engine needs 2 qt. of OIL, while the oil is full. and the Oil light stays on.

2) The Outside Temperature Display shows +136 degree. Is this a bad sensor? Is it located inside the rear view mirror by the Rain Sensor or is it in the engine compartment?

Does anyone know how to remedy remedy these issues? Is there any way that I can get the Oil Temp gauge to work? If not, can I remove only that Dial and swap it back with the old one? Will the Oil Pressure work again?

Any input regarding this matter is greatly appreciated.

Andy
