Help needed soft top stuck half way up
Hello everyone!
I need some help with my 1997 SL500. My soft top is stuck in the middle of a cycle. My windows are down and will not come up. The button for the top light ups but it does nothing. The top is locked in the middle. The front of the top and the rear of the top will not lock. The pins are in the way so the lock will not lock. I'm trying to get the top to go down so I can put my hard top on.

if the cycle has not completed I look for the micro switch on the bow. If it is not contacted by the frame it can't send the complete the cycle message to the top controller.
The latches for the cover can also be out of phase and not able to complete the cycle.

On my Benz it is on the driver side ( US delivery )
As the top folds, a hydraulic ram on the driver side , within the top frame work has a micro switch near the extension end of the ram that is contacted when the bow of the cloth top flexes into contact, ( front up and back raised ) so the hard cover can open to permit the soft top to fold into the back cavity.
Again Klaus is the expert. he publishes diagrams and photos on his web site

We need more details in order to help you out.
1) Has the top worked since you purchased the car?
2) Has any work been done to the top before it stopped functioning properly, or has the hard top been taken off just before this happened?
3) Please describe exactly what the top was doing when the problem occurred. Were you opening it or closing it, and exactly how far did the top move? Maybe you can add a picture.

1995 SL320
My 95 SL320 has I think the same problem, once I reset the hydraulic system..it will work about one time then I have to disconnect the battery for a few minutes then reconnect battery then the top will work another time..can't figure ot why it won't work more then one time after it's been reset..? Thanks for any help....
