Dome Lights Not Working
On my 1996 Mercedes SL320 (WDBFA63F1TF137197) my dome (map) lights do not work. The local Mercedes dealer says I need to replace my rear view mirror assembly (again!) to fix the problem. They say that the dome lights controller is in the rear view mirror. I would think that the controller for the dome lights would be in the dome light assembly above the rear view mirror. The part number for the rear view mirror is 1298102917. It is almost $700 plus installation costs. What is my best option for repairing this problem? When the fuse is connected for the dome lights and a door is opened, two fuses are blown, one controlling the dome lights and one for the instruments. If I just need a new dome light controller, what is the part number? Does anyone repair these mirror assembly? The rear view mirror contains the remote control for the door locks and is self-dimming. BTW, the dealer damaged the clam shell for the mirror when they were checking it and won't do anything about it. I replaced the mirror with a new one just three years ago. Does anyone have a good used mirror or just the dome light controller that I could install in my mirror.
