SL/R129: Leather quality ?

'98 SL500
Leather quality ?
I'm comparing the quality & thickness of the seat leather in our '91 560 SEC to our '98 SL500. With 143,000 mi the '91 is not showing the wear of the 49,000 mi '98. Has anyone had similar experience ? I can see driver's side bolster wear & stiching a future problem!... Any thoughts or cures ?

Not sure what the seat profile is on your 560, but perhaps the larger seat bolsters on the SL are more subject to wear as you slide into and out of the car. My 95 SL500 is holding up OK, although it has under 30K miles. Still, most of those miles are top down miles with exposure to sun, heat, etc. I clean and treat the seats religiously every year - it might help.
