1995 SL 600 - ABS Light On

I bought a 95 SL 600 with 36k miles but it had the ABS light on. It doesn't bother me all that much because I live in Southern California where it never rains but just seeing it on is kind of annoying.

Anyone have any ideas? My mechanic that specializes in MB says it can be a loose/faulty wire somewhere and it can take 10-15 hours of labor to diagnose. That seems like a lot of work and can get expensive.

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

Thanks everyone.

I would think connecting to the Star diagnostic system should narrow down the search for the problem. 10 to 15 hours seems quite excessive. If your mechanic doesn't have the Star diagnostic computer you probably need a different mechanic.

with the above comment, I agree. I have searched and repaired the problem on several I have owned. I disconnect the battery then reconnect hours later, (clear the fault codes )
With the restart I turn the steering wheel side to side to reset the system. I watch carefully what else happens when the panel light turns back on. ( I spin the wheels from a fast start or skidding thru a turn? or just start the engine! )
The wiring can be at issue. The brain can be the problem. lots of issues or simple, but blindly hunting not efficient! Nor cheap!
Good luck with sorting out the problem

I think the 95s still had the dreaded biodegradable wiring harness that can cause something like this, If it has not been replaced expect to see more electrical gremlins.
