SL/R129: Door problem....what is going on with this??
Now my problem. I don't know if this is related but will tell the whole tale. Car is a 1996 SL500.
Friday had a small hole at the rear strapping/towing point welded. The welder disconnected the battery first. After that I had to reset the power windows. I did that and everything seemed fine. Changed the rear shocks today and afterwards the driver's door window was no dropping as it should when opening door. So reset that window again.
Now the window seems to operating fine, but the door is hard to open. Pull the latch inside and the window drops but the door doesn't release, or only releases part way and then I have to push on it a time or two to get it to release and open. Opening it from the outside is a bit easier, but still not right. You pull on the handle, the window drops and then maybe it opens after it thinks a second. It 'feels' like its just not releasing until it feels like it and then it opens easy....
Here's the simple solution in case anyone runs into this issue
I live on a dirt road and dirt/dust had accumulated in the latch area.
A good cleaning of the latch and a healthy spray of lube fixed the issue.
Door now opens and closes again without issue just as it should.
I did both while I was at it.
Something to keep in mind!
