recently i've been itching for something new. this past year i've been driving the E320 Lorinser wagon along w/ my '89 Porsche Cabriolet on wknds. now, i'm being tempted w/ either a 2000 or 2001 E55 that's coming off lease return for about $40 to $45k...or i'm also considering getting a 1997 SL500 sport or a 2002 silver arrow, around $35 or $50k. of course, that will also mean i have to decide whether to sell the wagon or the cabriolet. anybody here w/ insights would be very appreciated.
p.s. what kind of mileage on these V8's? i've been averaging around 20mpg on my two current 6 cylinders.

For my 1999 SL 500, which I have owned for 14 months now, I kept track for the first 5,400 Km (3,300 miles) of about 60% highway, 40% city driving and found I averaged 13.8 liters per 100 Km (20.4 miles per imperial gallon).
I can not speak too much for Porsche. I have only driven a boxter once. You would have to test drive the SL, to see the difference for your self. I bought the SL.
I do know that I have enjoyed the SL a lot. I love it.
The two seater SL does have certain practical limitations over a station wagen or a 4 door sedan.
Good luck!
Let us know what you decide.

The mileage is tied to the weight of your foo. If you drive the car gingerly you will get about 25hwy 18 city but those numbers fly out the window when you drop the hammer.
