SL/R129: Scanner

1999 SL 500, 2009 E 300Class, 2006 ML350
Scanner
Looking at buying a scanner for my MB fleet but especially for the SL500. Think I maybe able to deal with the minor codes and reset them and save myself $134 vs the dealer but is it actually worth getting a scanner? Cost in Canada $70-$90 depending on whether you want ABS as well.

I think 1996 is the cutoff year where you need the STAR diagnostic and can't do blink codes. The ODBII will only read and clear some of the codes.
I got my Chinese copy for $230. I already had a laptop with serial and the DAS/Xentry software. Don't spend money on the ODBII scanner as it won't help much with our cars.
