Really Bad Day; I probably Killed my SL500
I'm trying to have a little humor about this, but it's not easy. I crashed my 1996 SL500 today and really hurt it. The whole thing was my fault. I wasn't paying close enough attention and I ran right into the car in front of me (A big Yukon). I wasn't on the phone or changing radio stations. I as simply having a conversation with my daughter, turned a corner, and looked away for just a second or two.
I'm sad and angry with myself. I think the car is dead (which actually makes my wife happy). Fortunately, nobody got hurt (a state trooper was also involved. I hit the Yukon and she hit him. Talk about having a cop when you need one). The best thing is that everyone is ok (except my car).
Coincidentally, I decided to film my ride through the countryside today (I've only mounted a GoPro on the front of the car one other time. Wouldn't you know that it was a day in which I crashed.
Here is the video.
And.... I hated Mondays before. Now they are my sworn enemy. I'm betting the car is a total loss considering it will probably cost more to fix than it's worth.
In another cruel irony, this crash happened less then five miles after I filled up the gas tank (Last week I bought a new $125 battery, and a couple weeks before that new tires. Not good).

Condolences, Mike. It could happen to any of us. I hope that you and your daughter are OK and that you replace your SL soon.

Mike,
Another aspect that was not your fault is that you were behind a big, view-blocking SUV and couldn't see what was going on ahead. Even sedan-sized automobiles can't see around those road hogs. I try to give them a wide berth.
