SL/R129: How fast have YOU gone in your SL 500

When playing with acceleration, I often get up to 135 mph in very short bursts before letting off.
I'd want to check or adjust the air pressure in the tires before doing much faster or anything for long durrations.
The notice posted on the gas fill flap shows how the tire pressure should be increased for high speed driving.
There have been other postings on this forum about why the cars are limited to 155 mph. It may relate mostly on how long at sustained high speeds it takes for the tires to blow out.

1991 MB 500 SL
Hit the speed governor and the speedo showed 260 km/h. This was with the softtop in position.
Top down, about 230 km/h.
Acceleration over 150 km/h is very different with the top up or down. The SL sure pulls over 200 km/h.

I must say though that I didn't see SL500 anywhere (I only read threads - not titles)...and as I was sure that most posters write down a speed without prooving the speed with a nice picture (I never saw that guy back who took the picture from behind me

MBenzNL,
I was looking at your photo album and saw your wood wheel.
Looks nice. Have you had any problems with it? I believe a few of these are sourced from Asia and only have a veneer. I'm after a quality solid wood one for my SL500 if it will help me go as fast as you.
Can you tell where you you bought it?
Thanks!

We have a blanket on the bench behind the seats. For our lap dog (3/4 Malteese cross 1/4 Yorke) to be comfortable.
She is 11 1/2 years old and loves the Benz. She completely ignores the Grand Cherokee since we bought the SL500. What can I say. She has good taste!
When I'm alone ... at higher speeds, with the top down and the wind screen up ... turbulance will pick that up and whip it arround!
Not something you want to contend with at high speeds.
