Changing my car's color to Pearl Black (pics appreciated)

Hi
I am new to this forum, my name is Raul and I am from Argentina.
My grandmother recently gave me as a gift her 1991 MB 500 SL. She was the first owner of the car, and used it for posing reasons only, so the car is in perfect state. It has only 25000 km on the clock, pretty good for a 13 year old car!

This first post is about painting my car, changing it's color. Grandma didn't get a very nice color combo, the car is brown, and the lower part of the car is sort of golden (not bling bling golden, just a toned downed gold) The interior is also dark brown and so is the soft top.

I would like to paint the car black, and a local paint shop offered me painting it with original MB paint in a tone called "Pearl Black". Has anyone seen an SL in this color? does it look good?

The interior will remain brown, and I'm thinking what to do with the softtop. Somebod told me they can be dyed and look as if they have always been that color. If not, I could change the softtop for an OEM black one, but that would cost a lot of $$$ and it would be a pity to discard my present softtop.

I would like to hear any comments on what color the car should be painted, and I'd like to see some pictures of this PEARL BLACK.

Thank you very much,
Raul

Pearl Black (or Blau Schwartz in German) is MB paint code 199. Black is 040.

My 1992 500E is pearl black ... check out http://photos.yahoo.com/mbprsha

Raul, also check out eBay for this color as well as other accessories. It's a great resource!

Here are a couple of cars that are Pearl Black ...

Guys thank you very much for the comments and pics...
Pearl Black looks really good, but I think I will go with something darker for the SL.
Ebay is definately a great source for random parts. What I'd like to change on the car are the fron corner lights, which in my car are orange beacuse it's a 91. Later models came with clear corners which look much better. Maybe I will change the taillights as well...

Thanks for the help. Will keep you posted with the progress
Greetings,
Raul

You are welcome ... I don't know what the pricing structure is in your country, but don't forget about getting prices at the Mercedes dealership ... 1994 turn indicator lights are an easy upgrade (take a look at my pics for the difference). I paid ~$50 USD each for mine. I'd rather go OEM than aftermarket when I can.

Best of luck!

Ciao

Yes, I will definately try to find OEM parts...
I'll see how much they are here, if not I'll by them when I go to the US.
Are these corner lights the same for all SL's? I mean, would the lights of a 99 model, or any other year, fit without any modifications needed?
Thank you ver much...

Raul ... there was a mid-run upgrade to most of the models in 1994/1995. You'll notice that the 1992 has a solid amber lense (front turn indicator light) which was then updated around 1994. Again, check the cars on eBay - you'll see a good indication of what was on what car when.

ciao

Mine in the picture is a very late 94 - Unsure if the clear lenses were standard of fitted aftermarket before I got the car.
