SL/R129: A/C goes on and off

1997 SL600 V12 AMG / R129
A/C goes on and off
Car is a 97 SL600 v12 amg sport.
Issue is that Ill be driving and my ac will just stop, usually when Im at a light or in slow traffic. Then when I get back on the road at 60 or 70, its starts blowing again. I can hear the compressor click on and the engine idle adjusts slightly as normal so seem the compressor is working but then fan is not... ?
Im thinking I may have a loose belt and here is why,
I also hear my power steering wine at times usually when its cold. Again, once I get going and the car is warmed up, the wining stops.
Am I on the right track? I just dont want to get stiffed at the shop for new onion gears...lol...

1994 AMG E60 (W124); 1997 SL600; & few others that I cannot fit in here
Mike, my 1997 SL600 suffered similar issue couple months back and my friend/shop said the register (?) behind the console had to be replaced. I have had owned this car for nearly two decades and was the first time to encounter this problem. Not a serious issue to take care of but had to remove some things to get access to. While at it, the shop replaced one of the broken plastic parts which was making occasional funny noise too. All in all, relatively simple problem to resolve.
