Is there a fuse for the Multicontour Seat, if so where is it located? Also aren't the lights on the door panels supposed to light when the door opens?

Over the production history of a vehicle a manufacturer will typically make many design revisions. Some are minor, some are major. Perhaps nothing undergoes more revision than electricals, and an answer that applies to one year of vehicle does not apply to another.

I need more information about your vehicle to supply an answer to your questions.

Its a 1998 sl 500 sports version. The drivers side has the countour seat. The buttons/switches don't work nor do the lights on the door frame/panel work. I have checked the fuse box under the hood and in the trunk and I haven't found a fuse that is assigned to either. Perhaps I don't know what I'm looking for.

When either door is opened 4 lamps should switch on: the one in each door panel, and the one in each footwell. All 4 lamps share a common fuse for power in the main fuse box (#24), and all are grounded through either of the two door switches.

I discovered I have no documentation on the multicontour seat. If this were an R230 car I would check the pneumatic supply from the PSE pump in the trunk. Specifically, I would apply vacuum to the line connected to port "MKL" using a hand-held pump that can be borrowed or purchased from Autozone, and I would see if there was a leak. Your R129 may be the same in that it has a dedicated line for the seats marked "MKL".

I've been traveling so I haven't had an opportunity to respond. The two lights in the footwell are working. It might be unusual, I'm thinking that those two bulbs in the door frame could be burnt out. I'm going to check. I also just noticed that the seat control panel on the driver's side in the door, has been pushed into the door panel as if whatever was holding it is missing or broken. Does the entire door panel have to be removed to address this or can just that part be taken out of the panel? Also the roll bar light comes on at times in the dash, even though it, the roll bar, operates fine. I appreciate any input that you or anyone else may have to help me solve these issues. Thanks

The vacuum pump that controls the seats, etc, on these cars go bad frequently.

You may have to have it rebuilt if bad as one of the pumps in the R129s (p/n 129 800 2048) is NLA...it is the one with 7 nipples , one of them controls the seat functions.
