SL/R129: ESP inconsistetn on right hand turns

1999 SL 500, 2009 E 300Class, 2006 ML350
ESP inconsistetn on right hand turns
So our 1999 R129 has been having ESP problems this summer. On some right hand turns like when entering a highway the ESP comes on at about 40 mph and applies the brake to one of the tires. Sometimes on right hand turns it applies the brake even if you're not braking. Kind of dangerous so I've taken to shutting it off. No codes or error messages. When mechanic took it for a test drive nothing happened. Ideas?

That's normal operation. ESP operation is purely a function of the available traction at each tire.
