Roof / Roll Bar not working
Having problems with 1990 SL300 roof/roll bar not working. I put hard top and parked the car for few weeks. I started every few days but did not drive. Wanted to talk the hardtop off today and would not work. When I press the down/up roof button just flashes. tried the roll bar button but nothing happens. Car starts np, windows work, battery is a bit low when tested only 25% charged. Will recharging battery on slow Genius charger help? any help is appreciated.

You may simply need to erase a stored code from the roof controller. To do that you will need a paper clip or wire to short diagnostic socket #10 to chassis ground. The procedure has been explained many times, so use the search or reply back for details.

It probably also has a rectangular connector (picture), and from its socket #10 you read codes.
The key must be on. Use a wire or paper clip to ground the socket for 3 seconds -- for convenience you may choose to use socket #1 for a ground. One second after you remove the ground connection the lamp in the roof control switch will flash. Count the flashes to obtain a code. Next, ground socket #10 for 7 seconds to erase the code you just obtained. Repeat the procedure until you obtain a "1' (no codes stored) or until you read codes that repeat.
You may find that once codes are erased your roof works. Otherwise, report back whatever codes are unerased, as that will suggest further steps.
Yes. If your battery is weak you should operate the roof with the motor running.
