Looking for some insight

Good Morning all
My question is if you had the opportunity to purchase a 2001 with some wiring issues would you do it?
First I love the 129 body style an have spent coinless hours dreaming of owning on. In my mind I dream of crushing the highway in one, of spending time just looking at it, driving it.
well any way I have found a unit that has some wiring issues. by that I mean someone in their wisdom was upgrading the stereo system. ok I can see that, but they cut the wiring harness plugs for the ac/heating control unit instead
I mean snipped them clean off. not just one but both plugs. go figure. as well the top doesn't work either. could be anything there. no fluid bad pump who knows. haven't had a chance to look the car over yet.

Any wayI know its 17 years old. and there are some issues. with the top, I can deal with that. But the wiring is another issue. I am getting to old and cant see well enough anymore to try and rewire the 2 plugs.
my local benz dealer couldn't give me and estimate with diving in to the car but said it could be /would be north of 1500 to 2k to sort it out.
I need you opinions should I walk away from the deal or jump in and take on this mutt. price of the car in 2500 bucks with 140k miles? beauty triple black no acidentss.

So I know they can be a bit of a money pit. but would it be just a bit to much to pull the trigger on this car and should I keep looking.

Any insight would be helpful

I'd say steer clear, but for $2500? I don't know. But, then again, who knows what else is wrong with it?

If you don't mind doing the work yourself it is probably a bargain; otherwise, perhaps not.

A friend of mine here in Georgia has 9 SLs, and maybe 4 of them are for sale. I'm guessing they range in price from $4K to $9K. PM me if you are interested in more information.

I don't mind doing the work myself and maintain my cars now. but finding a wiring diagram, is or has alluded my so far. I am well trained in wiring etc, as an electrical engineer, for 50 years, but
now medical issues cause me to struggle seeing, (cataracts, and losing my eyesight due to diabetes), I get shots at 2k per eye per month.. so, focusing up close is difficult.
I would have to take it to the dealer to do the work. and they have tentatively said 1 to 10k to rewire. in other words, until they see it in house could not give me a good estimate.
no I am not a rich guy being retired so I got more time than money any more.
well I think I have talked myself out of the car,
so my search will go on.
