gear box problems on a 1993 SL500 R129
Hello. I'm wondering if anyone can shed light on the issues I'm having selecting reverse. You select reverse and it doesn't engage until you give it a little throttle and it locks in. Being an old 1993 it's been told in has the manual style of auto box before the switched over to electronic in 95/96.
I have the great box serviced 5000 miles ago with new filters and fluid but this problem has been slowly developing over the last month or so. It's a weekend car so isn't driven that much (only has an amazing 55k on the clock so should not be a wear issue) I'm wondering if it's a fluid pressure issue as it feels like it's not engaging until the reving of the engine creates enough pressure. Only options I've found so far is a reconditioning of the gear box for £1500 or a full replacement second hand box from a 73,000 mile car for £650 plus fitting (£400). I'm in London. Cheers Tobyn
