SL/R129: 1998 SL 500 CONVERTIBLE TOP

1998 SL 500 CONVERTIBLE TOP
I just removed the hard top from my 1998 SL500. I can now not get the soft top to emerge from the resting position. The activation button just blinks red and there is no attempt to begin the process of restoring the soft top position.

Did you have the battery disconnected by chance? I had a similar issue when the battery had been disconnected for a while. It happeend 2 or 3 times after storage. I waited a day and magically it worked. I have been told that the antique computer needed time to reset. I don't have any other insights.

The rear locks need to be in the open, unlocked position. A discerning eye can look and discern the position of the lock. If you can not tell, then post a photo of both the left and right rear lock taken from above.
