94 500SL my A/C quit

My 95 SL500 A/C quit working ? The compressor will engage for a second & then disengage ? What can I do to diagnose & fix the problem ? I only drive it in the summer, so A/C is a must. The car has 64K miles.

Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it's low on Freon. Add some Freon with leak detect dye to determine if you have a leak. I just replaced the compressor on my 95 due to a leak at the front seal on the compressor.

If it literally cuts-out after a second, then I would suspect a problem with the clutch control.

The MAS module powers the compressor clutch. It also monitors compressor RPMs. To protect the serpentine belt in the event that the compressor has frozen, upon engaging the clutch the MAS must see the compressor spinning, or it will block operation of the clutch until the ignition key is cycled.

You can tell if the MAS is blocking operation by reading its codes as explained here: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r129...ml#post1925941
