SL/R129: r129 replacement key

r129 replacement key
I'm sure this has been answered MANY times, but my local MBZ dealer says replacement keys are unavailable TFN. The memo claims "Global Supply Issues" as the cause.
Luckily, I have 1 master key (remote not working), 3 valet keys and 1 billfold key.
What is this all about? Is MBZ really going to let owners of these cars let them become inop? Is a fine auto now a disposable item?

It has been that way over a year (even though a member here said I was wrong that wouldn't happen). Call MB customer support, send emails and call as many at MB you can find numbers for classic support for example. Depending where you live there are very few locksmiths that can make a key at a premium price! $250-500 for 1 flat key.

Hello to all,
just my today's experience here in Canada.
It's not possible to obtain a remote key fob from MB but they can make a classic key with transponder (we loose the opening and closing from the remote).....that's for the bad news.
But I found a company in England which make the remote key fob unit.....I will give you more informations in time. I am in process to order 2 remote key fob.

...so at the end the english compagny could not make the remote key for for the Mercedes SL500 1999.....I just can have a valet key from the dealership....the dealer told me guys from compagnies which install alarm systems for cars can help to install a remote for the locking and unlocking of the car.....you end up we 2 items instead of one...voila...;-)
