1994 SL 500 Engine replacement help!!
Does anyone have any helpful information in replacing a engine on a 1994 SL 500? My chain stretched and broke off plastic inside and cracked the valve cover. They qouted me 3-5 thousand to repair the engine. I've already purchased another engine with 78k miles on it. Me and my buddy are going to swap the engines, he has plenty of experience swapping engines but none on Mercedes. Does anyone have a reference or some type of manual we can look at before we begin? Also the new engine does not come with a alternator, streering pump, or ac compressor. I'm guessing we just use the one that's on my car. Anything helps 👍 thanks guys.

iI've found this DVD useful. It runs fairly well on 64 bit Windows 10 too: https://www.mercedes-benz-classic-st...sl-class-r-129
You have damaged pistons and conrods too, as you plan the replace the engine as a whole? BTW from your earlier picture it looks like the timing chain had been changed before the havoc - right?

The easything to do may be to first remove the transmission, I'm not sure how easy it would be to leave it in and remove the engine. Depending on the year of the replacement you may need more than just the alternator. Take some good pictures before starting the project.
