ASR ABS lights on 1996 SL500
The ASR & ABS lights are on, with no noticeable driving issues. Any ideas on next troubleshooting steps?
1996 SL500
Background:
I replaced the motor mounts and the mechanic broke part of the power stealing pump, so that had to replaced too. At first, the 2 lights were coming on occasionally, after driving, with more frequency. Now it comes on within one minute of driving. It doesn’t seem to be related to braking. When the lights come on, only cruise control doesn’t work. Speedometer stays functional.
Troubleshooting so far:
Tried to pull OBD2 codes, while the lights were on. No codes.
Checked the fuses atop the base control module.
Checked all other fuses in engine fuse and trunk fuse compartments.
Additional Info:
Battery replaced recently. Before the battery replacement, I always had the check engine light on for a secondary emissions sensor thingy (that is the technical name 😉. Ever since that light hasn’t come on and I have driven the car for 300+ miles approx since the battery replacement.

Since all fuses are good, the only recourse I can think of is to read codes from the ASR/ABS controller. For that you need a $300 Star Diagnosis (SDS) clone available from aliexpress.com or its equivalent. Every dealer has SDS, and some independent shops do as well.

I had a similar problem, replaced a 10 amp fuse that I burned out. I have a 1995 sl 500 so it might be different. The fuse was hidden under a plastic panael and a second box.
