new member

After many years of BMW M3 ownership and track driving - I finally found a new love( besides my wife).

just picked up a very low mileage florida 2002 desert silver sl500-- so new to us our first road trip will be in a few weeks coming from CT going to DC.

My past experience with the BMW forums was very helpful and created a bond with fellow owners.

So i really I look forward to learning a lot about our new toy from all the knowledgeable people on this site.

if it isn't too soon to ask a tech question- just took the hardtop off ( setup up a nice harbor freight hoist and the german made lifting attachment ) now with the soft top & up, on the top switch light stays on. Any suggestions?

I looked through the site and saw reference to the micro switches but it seemed that it didn't matter what top was on the car. My issue only happens with the soft top up.

thank you in advance

I have no idea about the TOP switch light.

I just wanted to say congrats on getting a great car.

Post how you enjoyed the road trip. We have been on many in the R129 and have enjoyed every minute.

Do you have the wind block mesh installed on the roll bar? It may be hidden in the trunk.

An illuminated top switch indicates the roof controller is not receiving confirmation from limit switches that the roof system is secured. For example, if the top is closed, then not all four switches at the front and rear are signalling that the roof is locked.

Yes make sure that is in place before your road trip ... makes Highway speeds + very pleasant in the car.

Windows up is the best way ... if you are new to TOP down driving.

Google maps says CT to DC is about a 6 hour drive.

Is the CD changer in the trunk working? Take some tunes.

I recall the first summer we had the SL 500 (back in 2003) ... the best feeling was driving top down on a warm day with the volume turned way up.

since I get no light with the hard top on only with the soft top does that narrow down the limit switch choice?

making a collection of music for the trip.

thank you
