I attempted to start my 1996 SL when battery voltage was low. Car did not start but roll bar deployed.
Roof warning lamp and roll bar warning lamp came on, neither would work.
My dealer reset the roof warning lamp and the soft top now works perfectly.
Dealer could not reset or find a fault with the roll bar .
So, roll bar works , I can raise or lower the roll bar using the switch.
But I have roll bar warning lamp continuously lit on dashboard and I have flashing warning lamp on roll bar operating switch only when the roll bar is in the down position.
Any help appreciated.
thanks

The roof/roll bar controller has detected a fault in the automatic deployment system for the roll bar. It is implausible that there is no fault code stored associated with this condition that can be read and assist with diagnosis.
I would find an independent shop which has Mercedes "Star Diagnosis" to read the code. Or better yet, I would invest c. $300 in the purchase from aliexpress.com of a Chinese-cloned Star Diagnosis of my own.

I brought the car back to my main dealer.
There are four stores fault codes but Dealer did not diagnose a specific problem.
The comedy’s are as follows
134. Control unit N52 (Soft top control module) is defective
135. Has exactly the same text
99. <no error text found>
99. Has exactly the same text
The soft top and roll bar are both working perfectly, but I still have the roll bar warning lamp on the dash up all the time and a fault on the roll bar switch when it is in the down position.
anybthoughts greatly appreciated

WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS: The roll bar deploy circuitry activated on start try with near dead battery--it tried to deploy and did not, setting an error code in the computer module and that relay stuck. IMHO I would go around and exercise the tip over sensors on the rear suspension. If that does not work, disconnect the power supply to the roll bar computer--un plug all the cables, clean and put contact-improver (Stabilant-22) is THE BEST IN THE WORLD. That everything works vis the switches shows no mechanical position switch faults and the problem is limited to the '. flash the warning light' activating relay.
