99 SL500 CD CHANGER PLUG RECEPTACLES

Original CD changer from 99 SL500

Optical cable receptacle left, power and control right - 3 pin.

Plugs angle in at the bottom of the changer.

This is the original CD changer from my 99 SL500. I replaced it with an identical unit used off ebay. The Audio 10 CD radio works perfectly with this unit. If your car is pre-99, you should only need the D2B optical cables available on ebay. And the Audio 10......
Sorry I can't seem to get these pictures small enough. I'll keep trying.

Looks like this is going to be a bit more difficult (kind of like the BAS guys said it would be).

The wired (not fiber cabled) CD changer has a 10 position connector with 9 pins used. 3 for power, ground and control; while 4 are most likely stereo audio signal pairs. That leaves 2 wires unaccounted for. Initially I thought they might be a audio feed to the sub-woofer, but the sub must get it's audio feed from the head unit itself. Nothing hard is ever easy.

Mahunt, 2Jags. I have a SL500 (1999) with CM2299 and Telephone, CD Changer (with fiber optic link). I want to change the CM 2299 by the 2910. I understand from your experience it is possible. Could you pls confirm the CD changer still work. I understand from 2Jags that a technician had to programme the radio, do you have the procedure? Is there and error code in the diag tooling SW to clear. what happen to the telephone? The backlight at night is orange in my car. Is it the case for the 2910 radio? Thanks for your support.

Florent31, the CD changer works perfectly with the 2910. Phone, probably not as there is no keypad or phone button. Since I don't have a phone, I didn't consider that when purchasing. When a US market car radio has been unplugged, it will request the radio code to be entered by displaying "CODE" on power up. A radio from the European market may display "PROD". I never got a definitive answer as to whether that means it has been programmed to another car or is a demo mode or what. If you are in the US and buying overseas, ask the seller for a picture of the radio displaying "CODE", not "PROD". Then you should just be able to plug the radio into your dash and enter the radio code as you would any other time. Must of course get the radio card for the radio you buy. If the radio you buy does display "PROD" when you plug it in, drive over to your indie and he can hook up STAR to the under-hood plug, clear the PROD programming and enter your new radio code. 15 minutes and neither my indie nor his tech had ever seen such a radio. I wish it would work in my 98, but the plugs on the back are different.
Hope this helps.

It is just plug and play. Same plugs for power and D2B optic cable for Bose on both radios.
Does your telephone work? I just read something the other day about the SOS system on 2000-2002 cars no longer working because it is analog and Mercedes went digital in 2008. I would think that affects the phone.

The telephone has been removed. I don't have any more old Nokia handset. Thanks for your advise.

Then it will be an easy plug and play swap. You'll have your CD changer and an in-dash changer.
