Gentleman,
I come to you all once again in the hopes of solving my dilema simply.
My 1991 300SL's cruise control disengages w/o obvious cause.

tire size needs to be very uniform in order for the cruise control to stay engaged. So front back, side to side need to have about the same rotation! I recall about a 2% allowance is all the sensor / CPU can accept. So sensor can be defective on any dics brake corner or tire size from front to back, the rotation is the factor not the tread, tire profile etc.
There is also a brake switch inside the drive side of the passenger compartment, as well as the ECU malfunction
Wheel size is the most common , in my experience
