Keys available regular cut metal
I am a new 2002 sl500 owner , with one key. I went to my local dealer and they confirmed that the keys aren't available. Not new news ..
They suggested Payless Car Keys Corp in Staten Island, NY. I called them and they said i can drive the car in and in a hour they would make a regular key, not a flip, that would start engine and open doors and trunk manually , $150.00
they also said I could mail in the key and the module and they would make a replacement . I haven't used their service yet , but looking at their reviews they seem well regarded.
I hope this might help some of you.

Cutting keys is not a problem, I have 4 already cut with dummy FOBS.
Starting the car is the issue.

This is the reply I got. However, I believe they will make manual old school keys and disable the immobilizer.
We can only do the key if you mail me your immobilizer module and key or door lock cylinder

yes it does look like an old school key. During my brief call with them they didn't mention disabling the immobilizer.
If they do disable it how would that effect the function of the cars systems?

Hurray - Just had two keys made for my SL500 !!
As so many of us have realized, even years later Mercedes doesn't seem to be doing anything to again have keys available for our SL500's.
I just had two keys made in Rhode Island, and I write to recommend the guys that made it happen in under three hours:

They removed the Immobilizer, re-programmed it, and handed me two fresh keys with a smile.
I drove 200 miles to see them, and they were worth it. They knew their stuff (took great care taking the under-dash apart on my super-clean low mileage SL500, took a credit card, and sent me on my way.

I checked into replacement key fobs w/ my local MB dealers here in So California. One guy looked up the part number and said they're no longer available. Nothing new there.The other dealer I contacted told me they make a replacement key for $50 that will open the car and start the car. The only difference is that the replacement key will not operate the remote features like those on the fob. I figure, big deal. I'll use the replacement key as a back up and perhaps one day MB will give us a break and start making fobs again.

I called the parts Department at The House of Imports and they told me they can cut a key that will manually open the car door, and start the car. They are located in Buena Park, CA. Google them for contact info.
